Last month, we started the dAWishingWell makeover, making changes to add new features to the group and simplify others. Here are all the changes we made and those who will start with the future.
Group layout
Since June, we changed the profile page, trimming it a lot and trying to make things easier to find. We also revamped the dAWishingWell rules and The Showcase. We still have some work to do like incorporating our new mascot to our group and journals design and making some adjustments to the journals CSS.
Affiliation
Instead of having to make a journal advertising dAWishingWell in their group, admins wanting to be our affiliate must tell, in the comment section of the request, why they want to affiliate with us. We understand that you might not want to advertise other groups in yours. But also, we want to affiliate with active groups who really care about us.
Wishes and wish features
We have many changes about wishes. Some will have a tryout period to see if these features are too demanding for the admins or if the members can't use them properly.
- We have changed the wish categories and reordered them. You can view all the categories in The Showcase.
- We added a description for each wish category.
- Now wishes must be DeviantArt related only.
- When you specify deviations in your wish, like a daily deviation wish, you are now allowed up to 3 deviations (no more). We will only accept deviations following our rules.
- dAWishingWell might refuse wishes that are impossible to grant, like too many points.
- Starting in August:
- If you don't want your art to be featured with your wish, you can add "Do not feature my art" in your note.
- If you want to select the artworks/journals to be featured, you can include up to 3 thumbnails or links to the artworks/journals in your note. (Feature in tryout period)
- If you want your artworks to be selected in a specific folder, you can include the link to the folder in your note. (Feature in tryout period)
- For all these options:
- You will need to write your restrictions for every wish, every month, because we won't keep a tally of them.
- We will not feature artworks or journals if they don't meet our group deviation rules and we will not ask you for new ones if they don't.
- You will not be able to change the restrictions of a regular wish once it's accepted.
- You will be able change the restrictions of a Forever wish once a week. (Feature in tryout period)
- We will limit the wish feature journals (Fishing for Wishes, The Wishing Jar, Wish Fondue and Wishing Upon a Star) to 30 wishes to spread the wishes through the month instead of having to feature most of them on the first week.
Gallery folders
We made many changes to the gallery folders.
- Since dAWishingWell is all about wishes, we will stop accepting random art. Therefore, the Featured folder is not longer available. Artworks have been moved to "Old group submissions".
- We added a folder for art of our new mascot, Wishper.
- We added many new folders for wishes. You have to send your wish before submitting your artwork or journal in the related folder. The submitted deviation must be directly related with your wish. For example, you can submit your commission journal in the "Wish - Commissions and adoptables" only if you made a wish for commissions for the current month or if you have a Forever wish for commissions.
- Submission to "dA happening journals" will be more restricted. We will only accept DeviantArt community related journals like features, contests, events and articles. We will no longer accept commission journals, begging for money, or other personal journals.
Failure to comply to our rules
Failure to comply to our rules, repetitively, like submitting in a wish folder when you don't have a wish, will result in a ban from the group. Members who fail to read and/or follow the rules cost a lot of admin time.
